ABOUT US

In 1971, the Baker family opened a small convenience store and a tire changing room on Sugar Hill Road, just outside of Marion. Father, George Baker, and sons, Paul and George Jr. each had a share. Later, Dad Baker turned the business over to the sons. Gas was pumped and windshields were cleaned for the customers back in those days.

As the tire business and store business grew, the market was expanded and other bays and lifts were added to the garage. In 1981, Paul Baker and wife, Frances, bought out brother George, Jr .and managed the market and garage six days a week. When sons, Ivan and Nathan, were old enough they began helping after school and on Saturdays.

The business grew and eventually outgrew the location, so plans were made to build a new automotive shop separate from the market. In 2008, the new shop opened just down the street. The new shop made it possible to accommodate more customers and add alignments and front end work, along with A/C work and to increase the brake jobs and routine maintenance. Then in November, 2013 an opportunity came to purchase a well-established downtown tire shop in Marion. The former owners, Randy and Lisa Parker, had called it City Tire. Thus Baker’s City Tire was formed and opened its doors November 4th. Son, Nathan Baker, and wife Autumn own and manage the 546 East Court St.
